Guess Whos Back ..Back again

Hey Ladies

So I am officially back after a long break from blogging for college reasons unfortunately I had to put a stop to my blogging work. However I was doing a lot of work on the sly as my procrastination from study (shh don’t tell the mother). I wanted my first post from my little break to be one that I knew ye would all find helpful and since I got countless emails about the mac lipstick dupe list asking for a brush one I thought Id spend a bit of time shopping around and looking for some of the best alternatives out there to the more pricey mac brushes and do a brush series of some sort, hey someone has to do it after all!

Mac brushes are pretty amazing in their own right however after lots of trials and comparisons I found that some of them lacked what other more affordable ones did not!! Don’t get me wrong MAC brushes are pretty to look at and it’s so tempting to build up your collection of brushes but realistically unless you’re a makeup artist you won’t need a huge amount. From my experience depending on your degree of experience and capabilities you only need a handful of brushes to be able to achieve most makeup looks. I know what it’s like though you watch you-tube tutorials and there mentioning all these brushes that you just “must have” and soon your list of brushes you want is in the 20’s and a couple of hundred euro’s worth.

So over the next few weeks I will be posting specifically about brushes, starting with my first one on the bare necessities of the basic brushes you would need to be able to achieve simple makeup looks and I’ll work my way up from there. Hopefully by the end of the week I will have a post on what each important brush is used for, because I have had a lot of ye asking me what the hell to do with all these brushes and then lastly a comparison on cheaper alternatives so you can decide which brushes suit you best for your budget and capabilities.

I will also be doing a review on the 3 naked palettes showing you swatches from each so you can decide for yourselves which one you would get the most use out of or if you’re unfortunately an eye shadow hoarder you might need all 3! I don’t recommend it and I don’t think you need all 3 by any means I was lucky to have been given the Naked 2 and 3 as gifts so it’s not too bad ha-ha. Also seeing as it is summer time and for some people that mean's time to de-fuzz after exams and layer on the tan if you’re like me and can’t tan for shit! Seriously like I get that I’m Irish and have red hair but could I not just tan a small bit instead of burning like a lobster, losing a layer of skin and ending up whiter than I was before. So in the spirit of sunshine and oompa lumpa's everywhere I will have a few reviews on tans out there that suit the paler skin tones like myself and leave the bisto gravy tans to the braver souls out there!

So Stick with me ladies over the next few weeks and I promise I will make up for my break and have some great new products and all the tips and tricks to have you looking fabulous this summer with enough money left over for an ice-cream or cocktail depending on your preference I know mine .

Eye Lash Extensions Excitement

Hey Ladies
So over the weekend I decided to treat myself and try something new, after much debate I went and got eyelash extensions!! I have always been an avid user of strip lashes however they are a pain in the ass when you are in a hurry. I find that they can be a bit much for an everyday look as well even though I’m all about the eye makeup. So after much research I went and got eyelash extensions done by a beautician Vivian who deals with Christoph Eye Couture extensions in Tullamore, you can find her Facebook business here here  for any information or to find salons near you.

I arrived at the appointment with no mascara on as requested as it makes the process much harder and thinking about it logically the eyelashes could be glued to the mascara instead of the natural eyelashes which would definitely shorten the life span of your new fabulous lashes. The whole process took about an hour for a full set of eyelashes which involved me keeping eyes closed for the whole process which was surprisingly not too bad however I would like to apologise for the amount of twitching I did. There is just something about someone at my eyes that makes me twitch; I wouldn’t exactly be an ideal candidate for a makeup doll.

She talked me through the process as she knew I was interested in the process, for my eyelashes she used multiple silk lashes in varying lengths from 8mm, 10mm and 12mm. This gave me a natural look with varying lengths; the eyelashes were stuck to my own individual lashes with glue. The glue doesn’t sting or anything I kind of expected it to but it was fine I didn’t even notice it so it’s a very comfortable beauty treatment. I had a million questions for her about whether to wear mascara or not and how to take off my makeup without damaging the eyelashes and she was great giving me ideas like not using anything oil based to remove my eyelashes to make them last longer. I will post some general queries and answers courtesy of reveal underneath who also offer training courses if your interested in learning how to do these yourself or just to get the most out of your eyelashes. You should get about 2-3 weeks out of the eyelashes if you take care of them, I’ve had them on for a few days now and haven’t noticed any falling out naturally, I may have been a bit heavy handed putting on my eyeliner and pulled out one of my own eyelashes but other than that they are really holding their own.

You can clearly see the difference it makes to your eyelashes; it’s amazing not to have to worry about mascara and still having long full lashes. The best part is that people keep thinking there my own lashes and comment on how lucky I am to have such long lashes. The sign of a good beauty treatment is when it looks natural and people don’t automatically assume there fake so these eyelashes get a huge thumbs up from me.

Do eyelash extensions make your own lashes fall out?

No, definitely not this is a myth.  It is important to have your lash extensions applied by a qualified operator who uses to quality product. The eyelash has a growth cycle, which means they are constantly being replaced like your hair.  If you pull so hard on an extension lash and pull out your own natural lash there will be no new lash ready to grow to take its place and you will have to wait 6-8 weeks for that lash to grow.

Can you still wear eye makeup?

Yes, but you won’t need mascara and you may even find you won’t need eyeliner, but you can still use eyeliner and eye shadows as usual but remember to remove with a product that does not contain oil of any kind as this will affect the glue. Eye Couture recommends removing eyeliner and eye shadow using our CEC remover pads. To remove eye shadow wet a cotton wipe and eye make-up remover and gently remove eye shadow in a side and upward movement not down onto the eyelash extensions. Wiping down towards the lashes will cause a build-up of makeup on the lashes and may reduce the life of them.

Can you wear mascara?

You won’t have to.  You can roll out of bed looking great and best of all it will make your lashes look like you’re wearing mascara 24/7 without the clumping, streaking and smudging look that you get with mascara. No more running and streaking mascara which is fantastic for brides on their special day. If desired you can wear a non-waterproof on the lower lashes but remember to use an eye makeup remover that contains no oil.

How long do they last?

Approximately 4-6 weeks if you respect your new lashes and take care of them.  Remember this is a semi-permanent beauty procedure.  Do not be duped by those who promise “permanent” extensions or attachments that last for 2+ months. A real lash’s life cycle is around 25-28 days, and as yours grows and fall out, so will the synthetic ones that are attached. If your hair and nails grow quickly then that may indicate that your lashes also are growing, shedding and renewing themselves quickly so you may find that your lashes will not last as long as someone whose hair growth is slow.
Your lifestyle and what work you do will also make a difference how long they last.  A ladies lashes working in the food industry where there is a lot of heat, steam and oil may not last as well as a lady who works in an air-conditioned office.  Eyelash extensions will not last for three months; this is false advertising by salons and inexperienced people.

Eyelash extensions were applied a few days ago and now a few lashes have fallen out – why?

As explained above the lash has a growth cycle and unfortunately it is hard to determine which lash is ready to fall out naturally so it is unpredictable when applying the synthetic lashes.  Each day we can lose 3-5 natural lashes, but often they fall out unnoticed unless they fall into your eye, but when eyelash extensions are applied we are more aware of when they shed as we know the extensions are there plus they are longer, darker and thicker.  If you sleep on your stomach with your face squashed into the pillow or you favour sleeping on one side you may notice the lashes may not last as well as the other side.
for more information go to reveal here

So there you have it my experience with eyelash extensions it’s pretty clear I’m already hooked on them and can’t wait to get them done again. The beautician I went to is located in Tullamore here business page can be found here if you want to book an appointment the eye lashes are €55 and are on special in February for €45 , I’ve uploaded some pictures of her beauty room where I had the extensions done also.

Hey Ladies

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and got lots of lovely new things, I know I spend most of it eating ha-ha. I have been working on a lot of post over Christmas and will start putting them up in the next few days, however the one I have for you today is one I am uber excited about. I have spent months building this list of dupes for Mac lipsticks a lot of them are from my own experience and the others are from research online and going out and trying them out. Obviously if they are "drugstore" lipsticks a lot of them won’t have the same consistency of the more expensive MAC one's but sometimes you just can't justify another red lipstick at €18 and want a cheaper alternative; and that ladies is where this god send of a list comes in.

Cotton Face Vintage the place where fashion dreams are made

Hey Ladies

As a lot of you know I worked in Miss Selfridge for nearly 4 years and it gave me a bit of insight into the different kinds of fashion trends and styles out there. I've always been a bit of shopaholic my mum can vouch for that, when I was younger she would have to pull me away from clothes that were way too old for me. So when I began working in Miss Selfridge it was amazing being around so many amazing stylish women and ever changing fashion trends. I worked with some of the most stylish women I know to date within all the different stores in the department store that housed the Miss Selfridge I worked in. To say I learned a lot from these women is an understatement, you will all know who you are. Whether they know it or not they showed me how to adapt current trends into my own style and make it my own and I can’t thank them enough for that.

So onto the main point of this post, lately I have been really obsessed with thrift shopping for vintage items so I can find something unusual and unique that others might not have. The funny thing is a lot of the stuff I am picking up is stuff I would have laughed at and turned my nose up at when my mum picked it out in a store a few years ago, so apologies for that mum I guess mothers do no best sometimes ha-ha.

Now don’t get me wrong thrift shopping isn’t always going into charity shops and rummaging through piles of clothes even though that is where you will probably find the best items and help a great cause. There are stores that deal especially with vintage style clothing and one of my all-time favourite's at the moment has got to be Cotton Face Vintage. This amazing vintage shop is run by the ever so stylish Sinead Lally in spiddal, however the best part about is you can shop straight from her Facebook page and she will post it to you. I was delighted when I found this out because I have no way of getting out to spiddal really even though I live in Galway.

Sinead Lally the owner of Cotton Face Vintage
How amazingly stylish is she!

Her Facebook page can be found here, but from what I've heard she is working on a website that should be up and running in the New Year. Her Facebook page is full of vintage items for little or nothing with some great styling ideas. One of my favourite things about this shop is the accessories she buys in, from fur collars, costume jewellery in every colour imaginable, fur cuffs, fedora hats and my staple bowler hat. These items go for as little as 6.99 sometimes, at the moment she has some great Christmas sales on which when I get paid I’m planning on buying everything!!

In the process of buying this outfit its just so versatile I am in love with it..So excited.

How amazing are the accessories in this photo? I need to get my handson one of these moschino belts but they keep selling out.

Loving these turbans this winter they make you look super stylish. This colour is one of my favourite's.

Selection of some of CFV new stock at the moment I just see sparkle and I get excited I am like a magpie

Click on any of the photos above to go to her website and see pricing and sizes of the items. I think the reason I love this store so much is the fact that I can find items that I won’t find on every other girl walking around which let’s be fair can be very irritating. If you’re the kind of girl who prefers to try on items first before buying them kind of like myself you can visit Pandora's Box on the last Saturday of every month in Galway city. It’s basically an indoor "flee market" but it’s full of some amazing clothing and accessories it’s worth a look. If you see any items on Cotton Face Vintage's store that you like you could always send Sinead a private mail on her website and see will she have them available at Pandora's Box.

I really can’t give this lady's style enough praise she really has changed how I dress recently. The red tartan jacket I wore at style in the city was such a huge hit all of ye, I can’t even remember how many people contacted me about it after I posted the photo. That tartan jacket was from Cotton Face Vintage of course so you can see the quality of the items and how unbelievable stylish they are. I have a wishlist from her store at the moment and it's the first place I will be going with my Christmas money this year and I can hardly wait eek!!Hopefully ye like the page just as much as I do and make sure and let me know what you buy from her.

Style in the City .. Girly Night Out

Hey Ladies

So as some of you may know I'm currently in the middle of my Christmas exams and they haven't been fun they involved long nights fuelled by caffeine and some serious cramming... However on Wednesday I had a night off and went along to Style in the City hosted by Cotton Face Vintage a well-known vintage boutique, and super stylish fashion blogger Rebecca Casserly from Bec Boop Fashionista.

There I am with one of the vintage blazers I bought from Cotton Face Vintage .. Love is not the word

The night was a fundraiser for two amazing charities, firstly Jigsaw in Galway which are an organization that offer counselling and other services for mental health to young people under the age of 25 for free. The other charity was Western alziemers which offer support and care for people who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and their families. It was an amazing night sponsored by some great local businesses in Galway helping to make it a glamorous night out for everyone that attended.

shamazing new haircut.
The ever fabulous Séana Curly from Innocent Illusion

Myself ,a few other friends and some well-known bloggers were at the event, we were like kids in a candy shop at all the different stalls from Cotton face Vintage, Pia Galway , Million Dollar Secrets, Thrift shop Junkies, Peter Marks and public romance to name a few. Each store had a stall where you could shop around or get your hair and nails done; I myself spent a good chunk of my rent money on some amazing vintage pieces and a dryer hood from sleep in rollers (review on it soon).

Peter Mark Hair Style Station, how amazing are those mirrors!!

Pia Fashion Boutique's display, as you already know I'm a huge fan of their unique
jewellery pieces I already own two and can't wait to visit the shop to get some more.

Cotton Face Vintage's stall on the night where I purchased my new tartan blazer, Sinead
the owner really has the most amazing style and always finds great pieces for her customers

Bespoke Headwear stand on the night.

There was a fashion show on the night also at half 7 which had outfits from stores such as Born, Swamp, Cotton Face Vintage, Public Romance and the amazing Pia Boutique in Galway. The outfits were fab I was so glad I only bought a little bit of money with me otherwise I would more than likely be homeless right now. I will however have a post soon on some of my purchases to get your opinions and see if ye like them or not.

One of the gorgeous models wearing an amazing sequin
dress from Pia boutique, I just need somewhere
to go now so I can buy it.
The stunning Meghan Jones modelling a piece from
Thrift shop Junkies line, there's something so 1920's
about this piece.

Myself and a few of the girls mentioned here won some great prizes from the raffle on the night to make things even better!! We had a great night and raised money for charity all in one go, I think it can be said it was worth the pain in my feet when I got home. Someone out there needs to tell me if they know of a pair of heels that don’t hurt like crazy because I certainly can't find any.
